![SALASPILS HES. oil on canvas 135x165 2008
This is my diploma-painting in the high school.
The theme I chose was apartment houses built in Latvia while it was a part of the Soviet Union.
A bit of a background: [At first I’ve to admit - I just LOVE these buildings constructed out of pre-made concrete blocks. And all of my statements can be caused by my uncontrollable emotions.] In Soviet Union in mid 70’s where released a catalog of construction details for any kinds of architectural ‘objects’. The role of an architect was pretty much like that of a child playing with LEGO: you just pick the bricks and arrange them in a combination pleasant to your or your boss’s eyes. This is one reason of my attraction or maybe even addiction.
Another: as this kind of architecture is not of those to be restored - all the long [~40 years old] and bright history can be read just looking at it. It seems each one living in one particular house has not been able to NOT to leave some traces of his/her personality behind: the balconies in more or less weird colors full of the most ridiculous things. Eh.. You just have to see it!!](http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kpikwxC8ke1qa0iy3o1_500.jpg)
